EDO 2024: OKOSUN IN THE EYES OF HISTORY
One thing that stands “Uncle T” out is how he traveled the entire state in the pursuit of his educational career - schooled in Edo North Auchi Polytechnic where he bagged OND and HND, and later attend University of Benin, for his Masters degree in Public Administration and he also attended Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma for his LL.B and crowned it with B.L from the Nigerian Law School.
This alone makes him versed in the politics of the three senatorial districts, understanding the people, adaptability, and co-existence.
That’s not all. *“Uncle T”* also has another thing going for him in his divine mandate to govern Edo people - his experience as a legislator, his stint in the executive arm of government, and his judiciary experience - the man who has seen it all in the three arms of government.
Rt. Hon. Thomas Okosun, a legal practitioner in Heritage Chambers, was an honourable member of the Edo State House of Assembly from 1992 to 1993 and later 1999 to 2003 and at some point, he became the Speaker. He was Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of Tayo Akpata University of Education, Ekiadolor; a member of the National Governing Council of African Union Development Agency (AUDA) NEPAD African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) from 2019 to 2023 when they conducted the second review of Nigeria and developed National Plan of Action and again; a member representing South-South in Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal, Abuja from 2020 till date.
Rt. Hon. Thomas Okosun has shown political experience, ability, capacity, and capability in all the roles and responsibilities he found himself. He is not a newcomer to the politics of Edo state.
He’s not under the pressure of anyone to run for the highest seat in Edo state, let alone yielding to pressure from any quarter - *HIS IS A DIVINE MANDATE,* different from others yielding under undue pressure.
To fully understand the political experience of Rt. Hon. Thomas Okosun - we’re talking about the man who moved the motion for the formation of the ruling party in Nigeria today, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
*The man President Bola Ahmed Tinubu asked to file for the registration of APC in court when INEC refused to register the Party because of another party, African People’s Congress (APC), adopting the name already. Okosun has come a long way politically and not some roadside joiners.*
